About Ken
Born in Georgia, Ken grew up learning the family sawmilling business “at his grandfather’s knee”. He attended universities in Georgia, his studies spanning the Humanities, Fine Arts, Architecture, Behavioral Sciences, and Religious Studies.
Ken began his 30-year LBM career at the entry level, in the very first Home Depot store, located in Atlanta. He eventually took management and executive positions with Ernst Home, Lowe’s Companies and Ellsworth Builder’s Supply, completing extensive management and product knowledge training.
Ambitious and motivated, he became an effective trainer and inspiring leader within these organizations — and was increasing asked to use his talent to educate and advise others in the building material and home center industry. Ken had discovered his true passion and calling. He then set up his own company, with the aim of helping LBM business leaders and teams increase their profitability, professionalism and enthusiasm.
Today Ken provides training, advising and coaching to LBM companies with his sales and operations training programs, executive skills development and coaching, and keynote speaking.
A recognized authority on management and leadership issues, Ken has published a series of educational articles in industry publications, and developed a training manual. Ken has served on the board of directors for several LBM organizations, and is available for additional board work.
Ken deeply understands this industry, and is uniquely suited to guiding its businesses through challenging times. His engaging, no-nonsense communication style connects with staff at all levels, from sales people to senior executives. Ken is dedicated to helping his clients establish or revitalize confidence, courage, creativity and pride in their work.
A husband and father, Ken balances his work life by fly-fishing with his son, gardening, and practicing martial arts. He is also an accomplished vocalist and instrumentalist.
